Our intention is that this website will be a useful resource for local people to find out more about the local Liberal Democrats and the campaigns we are running. We have made an impressive move in Loughborough at the last general election, having the highest increase in vote share - three times that of the Conservatives. It's clear that the Liberal Democrats are the growing party in Loughborough.

We continue to work for local people on issues that matter. We are not just here at election time. John Popley is candidate for Shepshed by-election

John Popley, who is currently chair of the Shepshed Town Council, has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the County Council by-election on 4th October. John, who is 56 and has lived in Shepshed for over 50 years, is married with 3 children - all of whom have attended Shepshed schools. He has ten years' experience as a Town Councillor and is the longest serving governor on Shepshed High School. John's wife Cynthia, is also a Town and Charnwood Borough councillor for Shepshed East.

A night of local success in the elections

For the first time in many years, Liberal Democrat councillors from Loughborough and Shepshed have been elected to Charnwood Borough Council. Congratulations to Cynthia Popley in Shepshed East and David Walker in Loughborough Outwoods.

Shepshed Town Councillors join the Lib Dems

Jackie Gee, Diane Horn and Bill Hutchinson, were awere formerly independent members on Shepshed Town Council, have now joined the Liberal Democrats. All three are well known Shepshed personalities and have been very active locally for many years.

David Walker hosts Informal pre-Christmas get-together

David and Claire Walker will be hosting a coffee morning where coffee, mince pies and political discussion will be served for only £1.50. The event will be in the congenial surroundings of 337 Beacon Road and will run from 10.30 until 12.00 on 9th December. Members, supporters and interested parties are all welcome.

Nick Clegg MP to visit Loughborough

Nick Clegg MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary is to visit Loughborough. He will speak to local activists at a dinner at The Quality Hotel, Ashby Rd, Loughborough at 7.30 pm 26th October. Nick is well known in the area as the former MEP for the East Midlands and we are very pleased to welcome him here again.

Environmental disaster for Loughborough, Shepshed and Hathern

Shepshed Town councillor, John Popley and Charnwood Borough councillor, Roy Kershaw have warned about proposed green field destruction. They say that plans to construct many houses, shops and other buildings on the Garendon Estate will mean the end of the 'Green Wedge' separating Shepshed, Loughborough and Hathern, with the whole area being urbanised into greater Loughborough.
