Shepshed Town Councillors join the Lib Dems8.57.06pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 22nd Feb 2007 Jackie Gee, Diane Horn and Bill Hutchinson, were awere formerly independent members on Shepshed Town Council, have now joined the Liberal Democrats. All three are well known Shepshed personalities and have been very active locally for many years. Jackie is Warden at Arnold Smith House and very concerned about the needs of the elderly in Shepshed. Bill is involved in family and social care in the area and is particularly interested in Shepshed's history. Diane is active in fund raising for various charities as well youth work and the Glenmore Centre. Speaking on behalf of all three Councillors, Diane Horn said: 'I joined the Liberal Democrats because they have been very active and hard working in helping Shepshed residents with their problems. Monthly surgeries have Lib Dem LibDem Councillors closely in touch with local issues and people, many of whom have been helped. They have been particularly active in opposing plans to decimate the Garendon Green Wedge and have alerted residents about the huge environmental problems facing Shepshed - including widening of the M1, opening of a landfill centre at Newhurst Quarry and plans for massive expansion of East Midlands Airport. By joining the Liberal Democrats we feel we can more effectively serve the people of Shepshed and look forward to positively influencing the future of our Town.' Shepshed Lib Dems welcome all three in the confidence that they will add to our ability to serve the needs of the people of the town.
